Success Stories

The Mary Rose Trust

The Mary Rose Trust was formed in 1979 with HRH Prince Charles as its president. It costs The Mary Rose Trust £300000 a year to preserve the timbers of the Mary Rose. The Trust, as an independent charity, is not grant-aided by Government and relies on visitor income and fundraising to sustain its operation.

As David Childs CBE, Development Director says “The Mary Rose is just about to launch on a major fundraising campaign to create a world-class museum.  Obviously, Gift Aid will play a significant part in the campaign as a boost to donations. The Mary Rose was lucky to receive pertinent and clear advice from Barry Gower of GAIN on its Gift Aid forms, prior to the campaign getting underway.  This advice will help the Trust avoid some of the pitfalls over tax that the uninformed can fall into."

“We are delighted to have been able to be of assistance to The Mary Rose Trust”, said Barry Gower MD of
GAIN “and we wish them every success with their fundraising, especially their focus on Tax Efficient Giving and Gift Aid."

Gift Aid of membership fees from a religious organisation

The organisation is  a registered charity and we were able to ensure that the conditions of membership did not contravene the Gift Aid benefit rules.
We were then able to assist them to process their Gift Aid collection, and instantly collected over £20,000. In addition we processed this back to 4 April 2000 and so identified additional Gift Aid.

We are currently going through their membership list to identify those members who have not yet provided a Gift Aid declaration, and estimate that this will bring in an additional £5000 a year more.

Osteopathic Centre for Children- a medical charity which provides free treatment

This charity relies entirely on donations to support the treatment it provides.

We were able to advise the charity how to structure its donation appeals to its patients who were receiving treatment so that these could qualify for Gift Aid.

This charity is now receiving additional funds  as a result of efficient Gift Aid structuring.

Clare Wilson, Head of Fundraising , Osteopathic Centre for Children says

"As a result of the advice given by
GAIN, the OCC has been able to implement a Gift Aid collection scheme.  We are now collecting around £4,000-5,000 each month in additional income from Gift Aid, and are in the process of contacting all of our past donors to ask them to sign up to the scheme.  Before we contacted Gain we found it very difficult to access clear and accurate information on the eligibility of donations to Gift Aid, and the advice we received has made a significant increase to our annual income."
